Pipilotti Rist

a perk of being a sunflower: pipilotti
Today I went to the Hayward Gallery at Southbank Centre London to see the
Pipilotti Rist Eyeball Massage exhibit.
I absolutely fell in love with her psychedelic style that illuminated the dark gallery.
Her eery voice echoed the room... the faint sound of 'I'm not the girl who misses much...'
Pipilotti, whose original name was actually Elisabeth Charlotte Rist renamed herself in honour of
Pippi Longstocking.
I myself was a huge fan of Pippi as a child.
She was a wondrous, imaginative girl who made due without any parent in sight to make rules.
Every child's dream :)
(well for a while at least, until I would miss my parents too much)
My favorite room of the exhibit was one in which visitors could lie down with stuffed pants, I chose a pair of 90's looking jeans, in the middle of sheer drapes that reflected images of nature, animals, and people.
The images of sparkling tomato plants and a man licking the lips on his stubby chin were made even more interesting by the silhouettes of the passing visitors.

Pipilotti's style is fashionably savvy.
Green strawberries.
A single red dot on the base of each nail.
Nudity.

The Massachusetts Chandelier is her celebration of the human body.
It is a chandelier of underwear.
She describes the underpants as:
'The temple of our abdomen.  This part of the body is very sacred, as it is the site of our entrance into the world, the centre of sexual pleasure and the location of the exits for the body's garbage, the proof that our internal cleaning machine is miraculously working.
The chandelier bridges the contradictions between the things we ignore and the things we long for, the places we come from and want to go back into.'
(quote taken from Hayward Gallery guide pamphlet)
Even in the bathroom stalls there were videos playing she has produced.
Pipi is a sunflower.
If you ever have the chance check her out!

Now I will end my night, here at the flat, looking out on the Thames river, sipping wine
and
eating fresh baked ginger cookies done by Natasha.
mmmmmmm.... life is damn good.
