panoramic view

Here is what I peacefully enjoy from my window...
One reason I don't mind staying in with wine and a book at night.
This view is priceless.

Today, I am going to Bond St. to volunteer at EMpower.
I love what they do and I am super excited to learn more!

hooray! for the happy and regal flower!

a perk of being a sunflower: flooding the runway with smiles
SS: 2012 = the rise of the sunflower
Vogue Italia shed light on the girasoli for being the trend of Spring/Summer 2012.
All of us sunflowers already know the powerful vibrance we send off.
Designers such as Ashish (posted below), Rodarte, Blumarine, Moschino, Prada,
and Oscar de la Renta flood the runway with loud yellow, floral prints for their SS lines.

Yes, the sunflower is in style.
But according to us, it never was out of style.
Dating back to Louis the Sun King, there is a certain regal significance to this flower that is undeniable.
A certain je ne sais quoi...
Oh, I think it's because it is impossible to look at a sunflower and not feel brighter :)
Yes, that's the power we hold.
Shine on.

Pipilotti Rist

a perk of being a sunflower: pipilotti
Today I went to the Hayward Gallery at Southbank Centre London to see the
Pipilotti Rist Eyeball Massage exhibit.
I absolutely fell in love with her psychedelic style that illuminated the dark gallery.
Her eery voice echoed the room... the faint sound of 'I'm not the girl who misses much...'
Pipilotti, whose original name was actually Elisabeth Charlotte Rist renamed herself in honour of
Pippi Longstocking.
I myself was a huge fan of Pippi as a child.
She was a wondrous, imaginative girl who made due without any parent in sight to make rules.
Every child's dream :)
(well for a while at least, until I would miss my parents too much)
My favorite room of the exhibit was one in which visitors could lie down with stuffed pants, I chose a pair of 90's looking jeans, in the middle of sheer drapes that reflected images of nature, animals, and people.
The images of sparkling tomato plants and a man licking the lips on his stubby chin were made even more interesting by the silhouettes of the passing visitors.

Pipilotti's style is fashionably savvy.
Green strawberries.
A single red dot on the base of each nail.
Nudity.

The Massachusetts Chandelier is her celebration of the human body.
It is a chandelier of underwear.
She describes the underpants as:
'The temple of our abdomen.  This part of the body is very sacred, as it is the site of our entrance into the world, the centre of sexual pleasure and the location of the exits for the body's garbage, the proof that our internal cleaning machine is miraculously working.
The chandelier bridges the contradictions between the things we ignore and the things we long for, the places we come from and want to go back into.'
(quote taken from Hayward Gallery guide pamphlet)
Even in the bathroom stalls there were videos playing she has produced.
Pipi is a sunflower.
If you ever have the chance check her out!

Now I will end my night, here at the flat, looking out on the Thames river, sipping wine
and
eating fresh baked ginger cookies done by Natasha.
mmmmmmm.... life is damn good.

sun set on me

A perk of being a sunflower: treasuring the beauty of a sun set at the end of the day
A view out of my window...
Sun setting over the Thames.
No matter how many beautiful sun sets I was fortunate enough to see this week during London's clear sky burst of indian summer, it never gets old.
I can honestly say that one of my favorite things to see is a big luminous sun disappearing below the horizon.

laundry day

Sunday... Sunday's are always my way of starting the week right.
Doing my laundry so I will smell fresh and have prime outfit selection for the week.
Running, and saying "okay one out of one..." planning on getting to "seven out of seven!"
Picking up around the house...
Lying in the park reading.  Currently I'm reading short stories from the New Granta Book of American Short Stories.
And ending the night right, with homemade pasta dinner and red wine...
Mmmmm...
I like Sundays :)

Happy Birthday Mom!! You are truly the best thing that has happened to me.
